About

Tough Talks

There are factors globally that present either difficult or pressing questions and conversations with clients and organisations.

From climate change to conflict, from navigating ‘othering’ to power imbalances. The Tough Talks series tackles these head-on.

Tough Talks is led by EMCC Global board members Dr Riza Kadilar, Stephen Murphy and Nigel Cumberland and EMCC Global climate action workgroup leader Rita Symons.

During this Tough Talk we addressed the direct and indirect impact of Terror and Conflict in our world. We explored the topic from different lenses and asked participants to consider what most impacts their own reactions? We discussed views on how should the coach, mentor and supervision bodies react ? And considered how terror and conflict impact on our own work as a practitioner?

We contracted at the start of the session, to allow participants to reflect with colleagues in a safe and stimulating space.

The session brought people together to consider possible questions to add to their practice and for broader consideration.

Climate Action and Sustainability: What is our role in encouraging a future focus?

Friday 12 January

Some dispute the scale of the challenge, but the evidence is hard to deny. The world’s resources are stretched.

In 2022, the Climate Action and Sustainability Group of EMCC Global produced a Reflective Guide for Members (click to download your copy).

Download the reflection guideThe objectives of the Reflection Guide are to:

  • Offer EMCC Global members different tools, knowledge and recommendations that can help raise awareness of their personal and professional role in current climate change.
  • Prepare EMCC Global members to better cope with the ecological transition due to 21st-century challenges.

This Tough Talk introduces the Reflective Guide and uses some of the thought-provoking questions to collectively explore this issue, both from an individual and a systemic viewpoint.

This session allowed participants to reflect with colleagues in a safe and stimulating space.

What might be the unique contribution of the coaching, mentoring and supervision profession in addressing the global challenge?

The session brought people together to consider possible questions to add to their practice and for broader consideration.

During the session, we pooled our thoughts on a jamboard, a link to which is here.

Future dates:

    • Friday 15 March 3pm-4.30pm CET
